Lab Coat/Goggles Recycling Program

University of Houston-Downtown Girl Genius: Lab Coat and Goggles Recycling Program

Girl Genius club at the University of Houston-Downtown is excited to announce the launch of our Lab Coat and Goggles Recycling Program! This initiative is designed to support incoming freshmen and transfer students by providing them with essential lab gear while promoting sustainability on our campus.

Program Overview

Starting this fall, our club will be collecting gently used lab coats and safety goggles from current students, alumni, and faculty to distribute to new students who are just beginning their journey in STEM fields. By recycling these essential items, we aim to:

  • Reduce Waste: Keep lab gear out of landfills and encourage a culture of environmental responsibility.
  • Support New Students: Make essential lab equipment more accessible and affordable for those starting their academic careers.
  • Promote Inclusivity: Ensure that all students, regardless of their financial situation, have the tools they need to succeed in their studies and research.

How It Works

  1. Collection Drives: We will hold collection drives throughout the academic year. Look out for announcements and drop-off locations on campus where you can donate your gently used lab coats and goggles.
  2. Cleaning and Quality Check: All donated items will be thoroughly cleaned and inspected for quality. Our dedicated volunteers will ensure that every item meets safety and hygiene standards before it is redistributed.
  3. Distribution: At the start of each semester, new and transfer students will have the opportunity to pick up a lab coat and goggles through our program. Distribution details will be communicated via email and campus flyers.
  4. Get Involved: If you’re interested in helping out, whether through donation, volunteering, or spreading the word, we welcome your support! Contact us at hello@girlgeniusuhd.com.

Why Participate?

By participating in the Lab Coat and Goggles Recycling Program, you’re not only contributing to a greener campus but also helping to foster a supportive and inclusive community for women in STEM. Your involvement makes a tangible difference in the lives of new students and the environment.
